Update Time: I did not end up Rick Rolling my friend with the episode. But he still thinks I’m a dummy for having not read Crisis yet.
You need to tell him that the real dummy fought the seven soldiers of victory and greg Saunders vigilante. And come on not every one can read every thing I mean how many people read the watchman comic more then once besides me. That was long read both times .
Hello Chris, it’s nice to hear a new voice. I’ve never seen the three Crisis cartoons, as with the novelisation we were talking about last time, I’m not fussed about seeing a version of the classic, when I read the original as it appeared – the impact can never be the same. I did look at the three trailers on IMDb after hearing the animation style wasn’t great, but it looks fine. Certainly it’s better than the weirdly angular Justice League Unlimited style.
And actually, that third one looks rather watchable.
I didn’t quite get what the story is with Kara here… she’s working for the Monitor, but Harbinger is also around? Why change Kara’s role?
And who was the mystery old chap you were all talking about, was that Constantine, you did keep bringing him up?
So far as the premise for this episode of The Monitor Tapes is concerned, D&DCD, I wish you’d just let Chris read the comic, and then discussed the differences, rather then keep mentioning differences without Chris knowing what they were. That was a tad frustrating.
You’re right, the mystery old chap was Constantine.
As for mentioning the differences, that’s something the three of us discussed happening before recording. They know that I listen to the show and that I’m not exactly hiding from spoilers. So some of those differences they mentioned in the show were things that I already knew about.
You know what’s funny I’ve listened to multiple podcasts this week and one name pops up through thought several to bedsides super man .
Jack the king Kirby how weird is that . I wonder if the universe is telling I need to get the necca tmnt Kirby figure and the mr miracle figure and do deep dive in to Mr miracle and Kamandi for my you tube channel.
Have you read any Jack Kirby’s Kamandi or mr miracle and are either them going get spot light episodes and l do you guys have any necca figures like I bet the watcher has fugitoid up there and marvel legends fantastic four figures. And necca Kirby and marvel legends stan Lee on his shelf in his man cave area be cause every man has man cave . Also quick question who is better future hero Kamandi or Tommy tomorrow?
Ah, comments while listening. BTW, I currently work from home, so I listen to this podcast as a way to feel like I’m in an office where geeky co-workers from other departments are talking about things I’m interested in. I have seen the animated films, but my attention wasn’t always focused on the show 100% the whole time.
Interesting observation about how the Flash becomes the focus / viewpoint character in interpretations of Crisis on Infinite Earths. I shall try to re-read the comics again to see how it juggled the characters, but to my memory felt like ensemble cast of multiple primary and secondary characters in something like a disaster film + super team film + cosmic powers Ocean’s Eleven film.
In the films, there were lovely character moments related to each character, which was reminiscent of the original series. One that stands out is how the Bat Family survivors greet the lone Batman from another reality. For some reason, it reminded me of all the Earth 2-ers asking Power Girl how she was immediately after Supergirl was killed; that fear that their Supergirl might die (after being so used to her being one of the heavy weights) rang true — as did the scene with the Bat Family.

BACK! On the other hand, I was really not interested in the some of the longer sequences dealing with Psycho Pirate’s backstory, the slow buildup to Supergirl / Harbinger (and never been interested in The Monitor suddenly becoming one of many Monitors).
In my mind I reconcile this 3-part animated series to being one of may variants and side-stories to the main comic book maxi-series many years ago.
